The next most important decision you make besides the handbag style and material choice is of course the color. Chanel offers a wide array of colors specific to each material choice, from more standard colors like black, navy, brown, beige, white and royal blue to the flamboyant color options like iridescent and silver tone calfskin. For your first Chanel handbag, we recommend the traditional black leather option, with gold or silver hardware. This is because the bag will provide you the most use in terms of complementing your outfits and fitting into any kind of environment. A plus side of this means the bag will always be in high demand, keeping its investment value.
Now that you have decided which Chanel bag you want as your first, where should you buy it? You could go to a Chanel boutique and buy a new Classic or Reissue flap bag for $6,000, or purchase a pre-owned flap bag for half the retail price. Used Chanel bags sold by reputable resellers are usually in great to mint condition, with minimal signs of wear that you yourself would put on a brand new bag within a few uses.
LOVE this post! I just got my first Chanel bag in the past year; bought it for myself for my 30th birthday. While the store can seem intimidating, as you said I went in and told them it was my first bag and I was buying it for myself and they were SO HELPFUL. And excited for me too! The actual experience of being in the store and trying on the bags and finding the one that I loved was one of the best experiences ever, and a treasured part of getting my bag.
Just bought my first Chanel bag as a 30th birthday gift to myself and this post was my bible! Thanks so much for giving your honest opinion of size, leather type etc. I was going back and forth between lambskin or caviar. I got the classic flap in black caviar and cannot wait to slowly build a collection!
Love the post. I am looking to buy my first Chanel bag after years of dancing around. I am 38 and having my first child in mid may. I asked my husband for the purse as push gift. I am still debating on the hardware. gold or silver? Any suggestions?
Hello! I am looking to purchase The Classic double flap M/L handbag in Caviar leather with Gold hard wear. I am traveling to Rome,Florence, and on to Venice next month (October2019). I did have a concierge at The Four Seasons in Florence check Chanel stock in Florence! No bags!. So my question is I would really like the memory and the first time experience of purchasing my handbag especially in Italy, but getting slightly nervous I will not be able to find this bag with these specifics! Do you know how difficult it is to locate this bag brand new? Do they not make a lot of this line?
For those of you interested in purchasing your first Chanel directly from a boutique, my advice to you would be this: go often. Chanel launches six(ish) collections a year, and the best time to buy are the two to three weeks right after a new collection is launched, as the boutiques will have the best selection then. Chanel is intentionally opaque with when collections are being launched, so stop by your nearest boutique, get the number of an SA (sales associate) you feel comfortable with, and follow-up frequently with said SA on whether they have the bag you are looking for.
This model, which is designed like a mini Classic flap on a chain, preserves much of the trademark Chanel style in a sleek and fashionable product. It goes with virtually any outfit and can be held in your hand like a purse or strapped crossbody. The Wallet on Chain is a common first Chanel bag since it is considerably less costly than its larger counterparts while maintaining the same exquisite design, quality levels and attention to detail.
The most important thing to consider when buying your first Chanel or any designer handbag is to select a classic style. If you have the means, then go ahead and splurge on the newest styles. Otherwise, you will want your handbag to last a lifetime.
Coco Chanel designed her first bag in 1929, but like all the others available to upper-class women during the era, it was hand-carried and cumbersome. In February 1955 (thus the 2.55 moniker), she debuted the shoulder-carried version and changed handbag history. For the first time, it was acceptable for women of considerable social status to carry a bag on their shoulders.
For those of you following my blog for a while, you know that I find some Chanel bags great investment pieces. Chanel bags are classy, elegant and timeless. A bag from Chanel is always in style. These are the kind of bags that make a statement. Furthermore, you probably can never go wrong with going for Chanel. So, which bags do I think are the best for those looking at buying their first ever Chanel?
If you prefer a handbag that is less formal than the Classic Flap, you will like the Boy. The Chanel Boy bag has a capacity of the Classic Flap, but it offers a more edgier look. The Boy bag is still relatively new, however, it is safe to say that since it was first introduced in 2011, it has become a staple in handbag collections of next to every single Chanel lover out there. Furthermore, the Boy bag is also a good investment. Back when it was first introduced it had a price tag of little over $2,000. Since then, it has risen in price tremendously, starting at over $5000 (retail) today.
Hands down, if this is your first Chanel bag, I highly recommend you opting in for the Classic Chanel Double flap bag. It's timeless, increases in value year over year, and will never go out of style.
The most popular choice for those buying their first bags would be gold hardware as it has a classic appearance and high versatility. It exudes elegance and its a great match for a large variety of outfits. Shiny gold, brushed gold and antique gold are the different types of gold hardware used. Shiny gold is the original timeless style and brushed gold radiates femininity, great for softer outfit looks. The charming antique gold is a favourite among collectors due to its unique retro vibes.
After nearly two years of consideration, I purchased my first Chanel bag while I was in DC, at the recently opened outpost in CityCenter. I chose the Maxi Classic Double Flap Bag in black caviar leather. As with all my purchases of luxury goods, I calculated how many hours of work were required in order to pay for the bag. This put the price into perspective for me. 041b061a72
